It should have been a beautiful bathing day – but it almost took a dramatic turn. A 50-year-old from Krems wanted to swim to his daughter because she had already crossed half of Lake Pichling with her swimming ring. The father worried that she might not find her way back. About halfway across the lake, however, the 50-year-old lost his strength.
He began yelling for help and thrashing about. A 29-year-old from the Linz-Land district, who was playing volleyball with his girlfriend on the shore, noticed the emergency situation in the water. He grabbed a stand-up paddle board and rowed toward the thrashing man. In the meantime, however, an older lady with swimming rings had already rushed to help. The 50-year-old clung to the swim ring but shouted that he had no strength left.
The 29-year-old managed to save the older man from the water using the stand-up paddle. The 50-year-old was treated by an emergency doctor on the bank and taken to the Kepler University Hospital.
