The 500th anniversary of the Neufelden brewery on Saturday was a folk festival in the best sense of the word. “Neufelden hasn’t seen anything like this for a long time”, not only Mayor Peter Rachinger was impressed by the events on the Brauwiese.
The festive day was introduced by a large procession with horse and carts, wagons and tractors, the content of which was dedicated to hop growing and beer production. Master brewer Tobias Pumberger took a look back at the beginnings of the Neufelden brewery on the fairground: In 1523, the brewery in Neufelden was first mentioned as a brewery of the diocese of Passau. In 1631 it was even stipulated that all subjects of Neufelden had to purchase this beer. After the tapping of the summer beer, which had been brewed especially for the anniversary, visitors could taste how this anniversary is interpreted in the brewhouse today.
An ambassador for this beer will be the new hop queen Viktoria Hofer, who was also chosen on Saturday by the master brewers and guests of honour.
