However, the outlook for the possible candidate is not the most encouraging since, according to the latest survey by Equipos Consultores, whoever wants to Bordaberry with 52% support, 19% for the former president Julio María Sanguinetti, 10% for Robert Silva and a 1% for the president of the state company.

The Gurmendez experience

The leader of Antel has comings and goings between the private and business sectors. Gurméndez held the position of CEO in companies like HRU SA and of the Cancun International Airport of the Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste in Mexico. Also, he held a position as a consultant on airport issues at the United Nations Office for Projects.

Regarding his public activity, he currently holds the presidency of the state telecommunications company, although he was also Minister of Transport and Public Works during the government of Jorge Batlle. On the other hand, he held interim presidency positions in OSE, AFE and Ancap.
