When there is more than a year to go before the 2024 presidential electioninside the Multicolored Coalition The possible names for the pre-candidacies are already being settled – and also confirmed pre-candidacies such as that of Laura Raffo – that they will seek to keep the ruling party in power.
According to the latest Cifra survey, if the votes were held this month, 44% would choose the broad frontwhile 27% at National Party, 6% to Colorado Party, 2% to Town meeting and 1% to independent party, with 2% saying they would vote for the Coalition, without specifying party, which totals 38%.
The confirmed candidate within the National Party
Inside of the National Party (NP) who confirmed his candidacy was the former interim mayor of Montevideo, Laura Raffo. On the 20th of this month, Raffo presented the new sector at the Antel Auditorium Addwhich will lead and will be its platform facing the 2024 internal elections.
The pre-candidate assured that her new sector “it will take all the values and teachings of the historical leaders” of the party, as well as Lacalle Pou himself. “There is an order not to loosen up,” he said, paraphrasing the late former Interior Minister, Jorge Larranaga. Raffo has two of the main historical currents of the PN, such as the blacksmithing and the Wilsonism.

The favorite of the National Party
Although his confirmation has not yet been communicated, the one who has all the chips in his candidacy is the Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, as some white leaders perceive in Delgado “a natural successor” of the administration of the current government of Luis Lacalle Pou.
Figures such as the Minister of Social Development, Martin Lema, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), Juan Jose Olaizolathe general manager of Ministry of Interior, Nicholas Martinellithe undersecretary of Public health, Jose Luis Satdjian.
Within the polls, Delgado is the favorite with a vote intention of 56%, in second place, he was Raffo with 18%; followed by the vice president Beatriz Argimon (7%); the senator John Sartori (7%); the defense minister, javier garcia (4%); and the senator Jorge Gandini (2%).
The Colorado Party waits for Pedro Bordaberry
The one who is generating expectations for a possible candidacy is the leader of the Colorado Party (PC), Pedro Bordaberry, who once again registered his sector, Let’s go uruguaywithin the traditional party. This could be interpreted as as a sign of his return to political activity ahead of the 2024 national elections, after having been a candidate for president twice.

Another of the possible candidates, supported by the main sector of the PC, Ciudadanos, is the president of the Central Board of Directors (encode) of the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP), Robert Silva. The sympathies of the sector colored by Silva were directed mainly after its leader, the senator and former minister of Atmosphere, Adrian Penaslip into informal gatherings that will not be part of the electoral race due to personal issues.
Silva, who in case of accepting the candidacy in the party’s internal elections should at some point resign from his position, was already a vice-presidential candidate in 2019 in the formula headed by the former chancellor and founder of Ciudadanos, Ernesto Talvi.
An actor who appeared recently is the president of Antel, Gabriel Gurmendez, who would also seek to fight within the party. Gurméndez would go for List 15 of the party and would seem to have had meetings in seeking political support. On the other hand, as confirmed by sources, the economic support would come from the contacts of the president of Antel who has a long history in the private sector. Gurmendez should present his resignation in Parliament before October 27 since his position prohibits him from doing party politics.
The Cabildo Abierto candidates are still a mystery
While in the other sectors of the coalition more and more names resonate and pre-candidacies are confirmed, the political arc follows the waiting for the Cabildo Abierto to launch a possible candidate for next year’s elections.
The one who would seem to stand out within the party is the national senator and leader of the political group, Guido Manini Rios. Even in November of last year, the senator said that he would surely be a candidate since there was, up to now, no other figure with that objective.
