The president received the census taker and the authorities of the National Statistics Institute at the Suárez y Reyes presidential residence.
President Luis Lacalle Pou made yesterday the 2023 Census at the official residence of Suarez and Reyeswhere he also received the director of the National Statistics Institute (INE), Diego Aboal, and to the address of this year’s census survey in Uruguay, Leonardo Cuello and Lucia Perez.
While the census takers continue visiting Uruguayan homes to find out the characteristics of the current population, Emmanuel Pereira It was President Lacalle Pou’s turn to take a census, who received it with mate in hand and willing to complete the form that 85% of the citizens have already answered.

Regarding the Census process, the president highlighted its speed and ease, and recalled as a milestone the fact that Uruguay became the country in the region with the highest percentage of response to the digital census, which was implemented for the first time in the territory on this occasion: 51% of households were registered through this online modality between April 29 and May 22 —with the subsequent extension for those who were not at home at the time of the census taker’s visit.
Likewise, the president recognized the importance of the great participation of the population in the Census, which already surveyed 85% of Uruguayan households. The comments were made in a pleasant conversation that he had with the INE authorities —Aboal, Cuello and Pérez— and Pereira, at his residence, while they shared some mates. From the entity they highlighted that Lacalle Pou “answered all the census questions with total kindness” and that he is “an example for all citizens of the importance of participating in this vital process for our country.”

Meanwhile, the census operation is advancing and in the coming weeks the work will continue in small towns in the interior of the country, settlements and in rural areas.
