The Rural Federation pointed to the government for the worrying situation of the sheep sector

The Rural Federation (FR) questioned the government for the lack of markets for the sheep sector and alerted for the “worrying situation” of the sector, which he described as having “indisputable social, economic and productive importance” for the country’s agricultural production, beyond the drop in exports.

From the FR they recalled that “sheep are free of foot-and-mouth disease in the Uruguay, without vaccination”, for which they insisted that “from no point of view agricultural production can be conceived without the participation of the sector”, given the proximity of the Launch of the Sheep Harvest 2023, to be held at the Tacuarembó Rural Association this Thursday, August 10.

About the problems of predators with foxes, caracaras, wild boars and dogs They assured that “they are as current as ever” and regretted the state’s actions. “Increasingly we are limited and stigmatized for controlling them at the field level”, they lamented.

Another criticism is given by the rustling. “With declining numbers, it continues to be a crime, which when carrying out the complaints (which we urge to carry out) are more observations and waste of time that provoke the producer, than the solutions”, they sentenced.

Questioning about the lack of markets

Among the agreements reached, the Rural Federation recalled that since June 15, 2021 Brazil and Uruguay they agreed on standing sheep passage for slaughter and breeding by the Concordia bridge (Artigas-Quaraí). “No one has happened yet”, fired from the sector.

In the statement, the RF stated that the sector “has in its actors the responsibility of taking the item forward” and indicated: “We are all part of the solution and we are aware that we are all part of the problem, knowing that some do not seem to realize the responsibility they have in the evolution of the field”.

At that point, he focused on the refrigeration industry, where they considered that “speed is not provided to maintain loading options at times when the animals are ready” and postulated that it is necessary to “work on higher carcass weights that improve the profitability and productivity of the systems and lower the cost per kilo of meat slaughtered, passing prices for the same as discarded animals”. At that point they stated that “The size of the box cannot continue to be an excuse to go out and market abroad”.

“We have to achieve reach all markets with bone, thinking about the figure of the compartment of the whole country and that it is not just some that today do not have access to better businesses either”, they questioned in the letter and recalled that “sheep are free of foot-and-mouth disease in Uruguay, without vaccination”.

Against “bureaucracy and regulations”

“We have to be mature enough to overcome bureaucracy and regulations that do not allow to regularize the farm work, so important for the viability of small and medium producers and a reality that we have to solve”, they insisted from the Rural Federation.

In this regard, they considered that “what has been done so far not only does not work, it is completely unaware of reality and It is one more pearl of the policies from the chair and not from the brete ”.

“It must be possible to certify the weight and classification of carcasses in fourth scale, as well as when going abroad not cause damage to what we sell by changing categories of equal weight,” they concluded from the entity.
