the government reallocated resources for 0 million for Udelar

Within the framework of the Accountability in Parliament, the government reallocated economic resources for 240 million pesos for the University of the Republic (udelar), something that to understand from its rector, Rodrigo Arimmeans “an important sign for the country”.

The Multicolor Coalition agreed to award said amount, more than 6.3 million dollars. Udelar had requested some 100 million dollars in his budget.

Arim assured that the government “transmitted qualitatively important messages” referring to the fact that “Udelar is going to be contemplated in some of its programmatic lines that it has raised as critical”he pointed.

Among these critical points that Arim notes are the lack of resources to attend to the ratio of hours between teachers and studentswhich indicates that it suffered a “deterioration” in recent times, due to “the good news of the increase in enrollment.”

In turn, it will strengthen the scholarship category from Udelar where there are difficulties, especially on the north coast of the country, where the applications for them have been greatly exceeding the university offer.

In this regard, he recalled that resources in the order of 60 million pesos were assigned to the interior of the countrya fund that “will surely come out of Parliament with some focus linked to the southwest and east of the country.”

According to Arim, this “would be complemented by a significant increase to incorporate the Hospital of Clinicsthe Faculty of Psychology, and the Faculty of Social Sciences in a joint project of the mental health program that was established by the Executive Power”.

Arbeleche: Udelar has a “very large” budget

Last month, the Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF), lily arbelecheHe stated in an interview that Udelar has a budget “of about 550 million dollars”based on what was executed last year, which corresponds to “98.5% of the total assigned.”

“It is a very large budget and it would be good if it could really be allocated to what is really a priority. Here what matters is not only spending, but spending well“, expressed Arbeleche at that time.

The head of the MEF went further and fired at Udelar for refusing to enable an audit, saying that at that university they have misunderstood that their autonomy from the government enables them to reject an internal audit.
