Uruguay was the country that contributed the most tourists to the new tourist surplus that it registered Argentina in the month of June, the third in a row, with Uruguayan visitors also being the ones who spent the most daily.
According to data supplied by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) of Argentina based on estimates from the International Tourism Survey (ETI), 947,800 non-resident visitors arrived in the country through all access routes.
The main country of origin of these non-resident tourists was Uruguay, with 26.1%. It was followed by Brazil (23.8%), and Chile (16.8%).
This is the third consecutive month that Argentinaplunged into a strong devaluation and with the blue dollar touching all-time highs daily, achieves a tourist surplus.
The Uruguayans also marked the highest average daily expenditure with 131.8 dollars, almost doubling the general average expenditure of visitors, which was 74.1 dollars, according to the Argentine INDEC.
He tourism deficit with Argentina between April and June it was estimated at 305 million dollars. The figure is 80% higher than that registered in the same period of 2019 (pre-pandemic), in real terms, according to calculations by C.P.A. Ferrere.
On the contrary, the expenditure of Argentines in Uruguay it is estimated at around 100 million dollars in the same period, a real drop of 43% compared to 2019. Thus, the tourist balance was negative at 205 million dollars in the second quarter.
The official tourism data in Argentina confirm how disadvantageous the situation is for Uruguaysince the departures of Argentines abroad reached 732,700 resident visitors and the country is not among the main destinations.
The main destinations chosen by Argentines were Europe, with 18.2%; Brazil, with 15.5%; and Paraguayan, with 14.0%; which jointly represented 47.7% of the total.
