The Jakartans they have been a long time complaining of the toxic air of chronic traffic, the industrial smoke and the coal power plants. Some of them started and won a civil lawsuit in 2021 demanding the Government that take measures to control air pollution.
The court ruled, at the time, that the president Joko Widodo should establish national air quality standards for protect human healthand that the Minister of Health and the Governor of Jakarta should devise strategies to control air pollution.

President Widodo commented on Tuesday that the solution would be to move the capital to Nusantara, which his government is building from scratch on the island of Borneo. The designation of the new capital is planned for 2024 and implies the transfer of at least 16 thousand officials, military and police.
