In the first half of the year, 144,256 passenger cars were newly registered in Austria: That is an increase of 15.7 percent compared to the same period last year. Only 54 percent of newly registered cars have a conventional drive. The proportion of alternatively powered passenger cars – electric and hybrid – reached 42 percent.
New registrations of passenger cars with diesel engines accounted for 20 percent and thus increased by 3.4 percent. Gasoline-powered cars fell by 0.4 percent to 48,523. In addition, 26,693 cars with electric drives (plus 58 percent), 31,299 hybrid cars with petrol-electric drives (plus 35 percent) and 8691 hybrid cars with diesel-electric drives (plus 12 percent) were newly registered. A total of 211,568 motor vehicles were newly registered. According to Statistics Austria, this is an increase of 14 percent.
