The Budget Committee of the Chamber of Deputies established that fines for speeding will have a cap equivalent to 5 Readjustable Units (UR), according to the article that was incorporated into the Accountabilityapproved by 10 votes in 17.
In this way, after the controversy over the radars, the maximum of the sanctions is reduced to a third of the current maximum value of 15 UR.
The objective is to “put a stop to the abuses”, specified the deputy of Town meeting, Alvaro Perronepromoter of the proposal, when referring to the possible impact on collection in some departments.
The legislator, who had requested a maximum limit of 4 UR, considered that the expensive fines create a problem “for hundreds of thousands of workers, mainly transit workers, drivers, and delivery people, who with fines of up to 15 adjustable units take the salary for a month’s work.
How are the values of the fines?
with the new fixed radar system implemented this week by the Ministry of Transportthe scale of fines for speeding had looked like this:
- . 5 UR (7,988 pesos) if the excess is 20 km/h.
- . 8 UR (12,781 pesos) if the excess is between 21 and 30 km/h.
- . 12 UR (19,171 pesos) if the excess is between 31 km and double the allowed limit.
- . 15 UR (23,964 pesos) if the excess speed exceeds twice what is allowed.
However, if the decision of the Budget Committee of the Chamber of Deputies is approved in the Accountability, only the amount of 5 readjustable units will remain in force, that is, almost 8,000 pesos, even for the cases of major violations due to excess of speed.
Deputy Perrone also proposed another change to the traffic regulations: to eliminate the mandatory nature of the first aid kit in vehicles.
