The price gap between Argentina and Uruguay reached 126% in July – the lowest figure since the beginning of the year – according to the latest Border Price Indicator Report, prepared by the Economic Observatory of the Catholic University in Salto.

The document shows that it is 56% cheaper to buy in the Argentine city of Concord that in the Uruguayan city of Salto. Seen from the opposite point of view, the indicator reflected that Leap is 126% more expensive than Concord.

The data shows a decrease since the previous measurement, carried out in the month of May, when Uruguay it was 144% more expensive and it is even the lowest percentage so far this year. In the month of January, the difference was 144%, in March it was 127% and in May it was 144%.

In which products is the biggest price difference between Argentina and Uruguay?

The biggest price difference occurs in the field Miscellaneous Assets (which includes the hygiene basket) where it reaches 233%; followed by Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco with 209%; Domestic products with 179% and Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages with a difference in the order of 123%.

the item Food, however, it is the most important within the Border Price Indicator since it represents 49.05% of it. Specifically in that division, the price difference decreased 17% in July compared to the previous measurement in May.

“This reduction in the price gap for the mentioned products can be explained, in part, by the increase in prices in Argentina in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages division, which experienced an increase of 4.2% in June. During the same period in Uruguay, the variation in the price of food was -1.31%”, the report states.
