Emergency services in numerous places tried to get the situation under control on Thursday. Other people were brought to safety from the water masses. Hundreds of storm-related damages have been reported so far. 125 streets were closed – including main traffic arteries.
The railway operator Bane Nor also closed several railway lines: landslides and water would have caused damage. A 170 meter long railway bridge in Ringebu suffered severe damage from the extreme weather and was in danger of collapsing.
The flooding is from torrential rain in the wake of the storm “Hans” been triggered. On Wednesday, the water masses caused major damage to a hydroelectric power station 120 kilometers northeast of Oslo. Experts expect that the floods will continue to rise in many places. “The danger is by no means over”Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre warned.
