President Luis Lacalle Pou received complaints from small rural producers while participating in the sheep harvest 2023 in the department of tacuarembó.
A rural producer approached the president with a letter that was signed by other departmental producers requesting access to land through the National Institute of Colonization (INC.).
“It’s going very badly in the countryside,” said the rural producer who approached Lacalle Pou. “We need land, President, we need land to stay and help smaller producers,” he added.
“I don’t want my grandchildren to go to the campaign today or tomorrow and find themselves only with tapas, that there are already plenty,” said the woman, who commented that most of the producers are aspiring settlers and that they are registered with INC.
The producer insisted to the president that “it doesn’t matter what area you are from, we are all going through the same thing, we talk to rural people and everyone has the same problem.”
“They are helping those who have the most, they have to share with those below,” he shot. In turn, she reminded him of Lacalle Pou that the disappearance of small producers could lead to the cessation of fairs and rural schools, “because we are all a chain.”
For his part, Lacalle Pou promised to analyze the situation and answer the letter from the petitioners from Tacuarembo.
