Slowly, but surely, Jasmin Zweimüller and Steffi Mühlbauer are getting down to business. The two 29-year-old members and runners of the LAG Genböck Haus Ried are organizing the Weberzeile city run for the second time this year. For months, the duo has been busy making sure that everything goes according to plan at the start on Saturday, August 19th and that both the participants and the spectators are served a real running party (we started in front of the Weberzeile).

The Weberzeile main run is again over 7.2 kilometers this year. The new distance celebrated its premiere last year – ten kilometers had to be completed before 2022. “This distance will remain in the coming years. We want to appeal to more runners in general,” say Zweimüller and Mühlbauer.

When asked how to deal with criticism about the shorter route, Zweimüller replies: “It’s easy to scold, there are always a few complainers, but the negative feedback was kept within narrow limits. In the past, almost half the city had to be cordoned off. Now it’s still around one and a half kilometers. That involves an enormous amount of effort, for which a lot of volunteer helpers are needed.”

On the day of the competition, which starts at 4 p.m. with the first children’s runs, around 70 LAG Ried members help to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Among other things, a relay competition over 7.2 kilometers with three runners is new this year. “The focus is on having fun for friends, relatives, club or work colleagues. The distances to be run are relatively easy to manage. If we could get between ten and 15 relay teams together, we would be very satisfied,” says Mühlbauer. Overall, the organizers are hoping for up to 600 participants.
