Russia shoots down two missiles over the Crimean bridge and blames Ukraine for the terrorist attack

Two missiles were shot down today by the Russian anti-aircraft defense on the Crimean bridge, an important civil and military infrastructure that connects Russia with this peninsula annexed in 2014, announced the Kremlin, which blamed Ukraine for the “terrorist attack”.

“The anti-aircraft defense forces shot down two enemy missiles near the Kerch Strait. The Crimean bridge has not been damaged,” Moscow-appointed regional governor Sergei Aksionov said on Telegram.

Special forces deployed a smoke screen as a supplementary means of defense, said an adviser to Aksionov, Oleg Kriushkov, but traffic “will resume soon.”

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense blamed Ukraine for the event, which it described as a “terrorist attack.”

The ministry reported that the attack was carried out with an S-200 anti-aircraft missile, modified to destroy ground targets, but it was “detected and intercepted in the air”, without causing casualties or material damage, according to a statement cited by the news agency. sputnik news.

According to the Ministry of Defense, his forces shot down about 20 Ukrainian drones near the Crimean peninsula in the last few hours.

“On (Friday) night, an attempted terrorist attack by the Kiev regime with 20 drones targeting targets on the territory of Crimea was thwarted,” the ministry said on Telegram.

The Crimean Bridge, built by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin after the annexation of Crimea in 2014, has been the target of Ukrainian attacks on several occasions since the start of the large-scale invasion in February 2022.

The last attack, in July, caused significant damage to the road section of the structure, which also serves to transport military equipment to the Russian army fighting in Ukraine.

The expensive bridge, inaugurated by Putin in 2018, is built of cement, measures 18 kilometers, and consists of two parallel structures: one side, for vehicular traffic, and the other, for rail traffic, the AFP news agency reported.

After the last attack, Moscow ordered to reinforce the security of this infrastructure.
