A 49-year-old motorcyclist fell on Sunday afternoon after colliding with a deer in Maria Schmolln (Braunau district) and was seriously injured. It was the second deer crossing accident with a two-wheeler within a few hours in Upper Austria: On Sunday night, a motorcyclist and his companion were injured in a collision with a deer in Eberstalzell (Wels-Land district), the police reported.
The deer crossing accident in Maria Schmolln happened around 2:05 p.m. A 49-year-old rode his motorcycle on the Sonnleitner Landesstraße (L1039) coming from Uttendorf in the direction of St. Johann am Walde. A deer ran from the left out of a field onto the road and directly into the motorcycle. As a result of the collision with the deer, the man with his vehicle fell and slid about 60 meters further until he came to rest in a meadow.
According to the police, the man was taken to the Braunau hospital with probably serious injuries after the first aid. The deer was killed in the collision and picked up by a hunter.
In Eberstalzell, a 55-year-old motorcyclist also collided with a deer on Sunday night. As a result of the collision, the driver and his 50-year-old partner, who was on the passenger seat, were thrown from the two-wheeler into a field and injured. The two people involved in the accident were brought to the hospital in Wels by rescue.
