The drugs were found in the central warehouse of a supermarket chain in Klecany near Prague, a spokeswoman for the National Drug Control said on Sunday, according to the CTK news agency. An employee of the warehouse found suspicious packages while unloading pallets of organic bananas on Saturday and informed the police.
Several samples of the one-kilo packets revealed that it was cocaine. The banana delivery was originally supposed to go from Ecuador to Amsterdam. The spokeswoman for the authorities said it was suspected that the drug smugglers may have made a mistake and that the cocaine was not unloaded in Amsterdam as planned due to a lack of time, but was taken to the logistics center in the Czech Republic together with the bananas. According to the information, the cocaine on the illegal drug market is worth the equivalent of more than 83 million euros.
