Double facelift makes Kamiq and Scala more sustainable

The slogan “Simply clever” is the motto of the Czech VW subsidiary Skoda. The various features in the various models prove that this is not just a bloodless marketing slogan. There is, for example, the umbrella in the front doors. Or the ice scraper that is always ready to hand in the tank cap. Or the removable mini waste bin for the passenger door. Or the extra storage compartment for the safety vest in the driver’s door. Or, or, or…

With the current facelift of the Kamiq and Scala models, the two compact cars now have additional “simply clever” ingredients: the convenience opening for the electric tailgate has been introduced.

Even a small foot movement under the rear bumper will be enough in the future to swing the tailgate upwards. Anyone who has ever stood in front of their car with a crate of mineral water or a box full of groceries will appreciate this very much.

Most successful SUV from Skoda

As part of a double facelift, the Skoda Kamiq and Scala have been extensively upgraded inside and out. The 4.2 meter long Kamiq, which has been part of the model range since 2019, is the most successful Czech SUV with 350,000 units.

Unsurprisingly, the robust character of the vehicle was further strengthened in the course of the sharpening. The front and rear diffusers have also been redesigned, as have the radiator grille and the two-part headlights. The upper light strip is now visibly narrower, while the lower light element has become larger.

For the first time with matrix LED light

Speaking of light: LED matrix headlights are available for the first time for Kamiq and Scala. They allow the driver to leave the high beam on at all times without dazzling other road users. Because a camera automatically recognizes oncoming vehicles and those driving in front and adjusts the bright cone of light accordingly.

In the top version “Monte Carlo” from Kamiq and Scala, the matrix light is standard, in all other equipment variants it can be ordered as an option.

Both models also come with an updated infotainment system. An 8-inch display is standard on board. If you prefer to look at the 10.25-inch virtual cockpit, you have to tick the option list accordingly. The same applies to the touchscreen enthroned on the center console, which has a diagonal of 8.25 inches as standard. On request, it is also 9.2 inches tall – if the navigation package is ordered.

The voice assistant’s name is Laura

This optional package also includes a language assistant who goes by the name of Laura. And the entire map material is updated wirelessly “over the air”.

As is the norm these days, more and more recycled materials are being used in the interior of the Skoda Kamiq and Scala: Recycled materials are used together with the natural fibers hemp and kenaf (subtropical plant fibre) for the seat covers, instrument panel, roof paneling and door panels. used.

In addition, the wiper fluid reservoir under the windshield and the wheelhouse cladding are made from recycled plastic. The flooring and floor mats are also made from recycled materials.

Prices for the Skoda Kamiq and Skoda Scala are not yet available, but the vehicles will not be available at dealerships until early 2024.

Engines and Transmissions: Skoda Kamiq and Skoda Scala have an identical drive range, it includes three TSI turbo petrol engines. A 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with 70 kW (95 hp) marks the entry, the five gears are sorted by means of a manual transmission.

Seven-speed DSG: At the next higher level is the 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 85 kW (115 hp), combined with a six-speed manual gearbox or the seven-speed DSG.

Cylinder deactivation: At the top is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 110 kW (150 hp). Both transmission options are also available here. The engine has cylinder deactivation. If full power is not required, the two middle “cups” of the in-line engine pause – without the driver noticing.
