Sales for the September holidays increased 20% compared to last year

Regarding international destinations, Rosales listed several within neighboring countries. In Brazil, packages were sold to places like Porto de Galinhas, Salvador de Bahia, Buzios and Rio de Janeiro. As for Argentina, the main destinations chosen by Uruguayans were, Buenos Airesthe Argentine north – made up of the provinces of Jujuy, Salta and Tucumán -, as well as in the south, having as a favorite city Bariloche. To these are added destinations a little further away such as Punta Cana, Cancun and South Africa.

In relation to the controversy generated around the spring break in schoolsspecifically the private ones, where there were not too many holidays to take – since they were taken during the winter recess at the request of the health authorities – Rosales assured that all packages that were sold were seven days.

Numbers that exceed the pandemic

According to Rosales, the sales of tourist packages are increasing year by year and, in relation to last year, exceeded numbers of transactions between 15% and 20% for the September holidays, even exceeding the numbers reached before the pandemic where there were no sanitary restrictions.

This phenomenon is accompanied by another: the exodus of Uruguayans to Argentina almost every weekend. According to Rosales, there are still spaces to travel by boat to the neighboring country during the holiday of August 24, although very few. “There are many people who travel to Buenos Aires on weekends and much more on long weekends,” explained Rosales, who assured that people cross the Rio de la Plata to eat in restaurants, walk and do some shopping.
