Historic blue dollar in Argentina, how should Uruguayans be paid?

The value of the MEP dollar skyrocketed, narrowing the gap with the informal, the payment method most used by Uruguayans in Argentina.

The price of Dolar blue (or parallel dollar) shot up in Argentinareaching a new historical maximum until reaching 685 Argentine pesos, after the Primary, Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory elections (PASO) of that country took place this Sunday, modifying the payment conveniences of Uruguayans in the neighboring country due to a rise in the MEP dollar.

This jump in the informal Argentine dollar represents a new impact for the country’s coastline, where merchants already suffered a price difference of up to 7 to 1, according to the mayor of the department of Black river, Omar Lafluf.

However, the phenomenon of the elections in the neighboring country caused the price of the MEP dollar to also rise, or also called the card dollar, where the card converts the expense to the fixed exchange rate. Thus, Uruguayan tourists pay the cards in dollars and the cardholders sell those dollars in Argentina through the financial market and finally pay the businesses or services in pesos.

In this sense, the MEP dollar reached in the Argentina today the 611 Argentine pesos, causing that the difference is not so big with respect to the blue. Where the uruguayans they used the card with a slightly lower price than the blue type, but without the risk of entering a “cave” or risking possible scams.
