The holiday ended in parts of Upper Austria with storms and heavy rain. Between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., more than 40 fire brigades were deployed as a result of the storm. The wide spectrum of operations ranged from lightning strikes, flooding, fallen trees and several boat salvage operations in Lake Attersee and Lake Traun. According to information from the state fire brigade command, there were mudslides there, and some roads had to be closed. Flooding also occurred in the Braunau district due to the heavy rain, and numerous cellars in the Höhnhart community, for example, had to be pumped out.

The Braunau district was the first to be affected. Then another thunderstorm cell, coming from the south, reached the Salzkammergut before the front hit the municipality of Micheldorf (Kirchdorf district) with full force. There, the emergency services were called to 15 operations within 30 minutes.

The night should be mostly dry

Now the thunderstorms should subside slowly. “Dry weather will prevail most of the time at night,” according to Geosphere Austria’s forecast. Dense clouds with a few showers will initially move across the country tomorrow, Wednesday, but the sun should appear everywhere from late morning. In the Bohemian Forest and in the southern highlands, meteorologists are expecting thunderstorms in the afternoon. The temperatures reach up to 30 degrees.

Tyrol: bridge torn away

A severe storm also fell in Tyrol on Tuesday. In Fulpmes (Innsbruck-Land district), the bridge over the Omesbach was ripped away by masses of water after a violent thunderstorm on Tuesday evening, the Tyrol police said. people were not injured.

In Kirchbichl (Kufstein district) a tree fell on the roof of a car due to a severe storm in the afternoon. The 18-year-old driver suffered minor injuries. In the meantime, another mudslide went down in the Kaunertal in the Tyrolean Oberland. According to the police, on Tuesday afternoon at the level of the “Rödgarten” gully, she left the Kaunertal Glacier Road. A 19-year-old driver was trapped there between two mudslides on Saturday evening. No vehicles or people were buried this time.
