99% of companies in Uruguay are MSMEs

In Uruguaythere are 190,000 national companies, of which 99% are MSMEs (micro, small and medium-sized enterprises), according to the National Development Agency (WALK), where only 10% of microenterprises become small within 5 years of their foundation, and barely 1% become medium.

The data was shared by the president of the institution, Carmen Sanchezwithin the framework of MSME Award 2023where initiatives are recognized MSMEs highlights of the country.

According to Sánchez, during the 2022-2023 period, some 28 million dollars were invested from the state in various business plans, directly benefiting some 26,000 companies of national origin.

In turn, the chief revealed that according to the evaluation of the performance of the MSMEs during the years 2008 and 2021, ANDE verified that this type of initiative is permeable to all types of vulnerabilities.

On the other hand, Sánchez explained that ANDE carried out the opening 20 SME Centers in some 17 departments of the country. “This network has made it possible to serve, in one year, more than 10,000 companies and entrepreneurs, in 344 locations,” he stressed.
