The woman was with two male companions (23, 26) on a hike from Maria Alm am Steinernen Meer via the Riemannhaus to the 2,653 meter high Schönfeldspitze. During the descent in the early afternoon, the three people below the summit were caught in a hailstorm, as the Salzburg police announced on Wednesday.
At an altitude of about 2,580 meters, the 29-year-old fell about 200 meters down steep rocky terrain south of the summit. Her companions immediately made an emergency call. However, the emergency doctor on the Martin 6 emergency helicopter could only determine that the woman had already died.
