The increase was mainly driven by the growth in the purchase of beverages, particularly bottled water, given the higher levels of salinity registered in the drinking water supply of the National Administration of State Sanitary Works (OSE).
In this sense, the analysis of the sales by product family, it registered that the “drinks” category was the the only one that shows growth so far this year, thanks to the increase in the purchase of bottled water. Thus, the rise in the item was 25%
On the other hand, “cleaning” and “personal care” are the categories that showed the most negative values, with falls of 7.5% and 7%, respectively. This takes on a greater dimension if one takes into account that the items are also one of the most price difference present with Argentina —at least, prior to the escalation of the parallel dollar in recent days in the neighboring country.
The category “food” it also fell, but only 1.5%.
Where did you buy more water?
According to the Radar Scanntech report, the departments that registered a less amount of sales in bottled water were Leap and paysandu —in line with the general drop in coastal businesses due to the price gap and the exchange difference with Argentina. In this sense, the sales of this product fell 24%. Meanwhile, Montevideo and Canelones registered the largest increases, with growth of 6%.
In the capital of the country increased sales in all areaswhere the municipalities TO —Paso de la Arena, Nuevo París, Belvedere and Prado, among other neighborhoods— and F —Villa Española, Manga and Maroñas, among others— are those that show the greatest progress, with increases of 7%.
However, if the water variable is isolated in the results, sales for the month of July fell by 3% in relation to last year. In the annual accumulated, meanwhile, the decline is 1%.
Lastly, spending on each purchase occasion —average ticket— in July was 366 pesos, showing stability in relation to the same month in 2022.
