At the ULTV Linz facility, Upper Austria’s tennis elite competed against each other at the weekend to choose the champions in the general class. The aces of the UTC Casa Moda Steyr showed their class among the men. The final even became a UTC-only affair. Viktor Hockl, who eliminated top seed Johannes Prammer in three sets in the semifinals, met defending champion Simon Traxler, who had eliminated second seeded Christopher Hutterer in a three-set thriller. Traxler kept the upper hand in two sets and thus impressively defended his title from the previous year. The 23-year-old was also unscathed in doubles with his partner Christopher Hutterer. He defeated UTC youngster Tobias Leitner and Max Schmaranzer from Linz in the match tiebreak of the third set.
Nadja Ramskogler (UTC Fischer Ried) from Reichraming was top seeded in the women’s race. In the first rounds she beat Jana Gahleitner 6:1, 6:1 and Lisa Gruber (ATSV Steyr) 6:1, 6:2 and entered the final with a lot of self-confidence. There the number two of the tournament Johanna Hiesmair (Linz AG Team OÖ) was waiting for Ramskogler, and the last year’s final was repeated. In a gripping match, the player from the Ennstal prevailed 6:4, 7:5 and won the state champion title.
