Linz, who had to do without captain Brian Lebler for a short time, started the game actively, conquering a lot of targets, especially in the neutral zone, and knew how to keep the Slovakian guests busy in their third. New signing Nico Feldner, who was allowed to take the position of Brian Lebler in the first line, represented the goal scorer on duty: After a Würschl shot, the native Tyrolean directed the disc to make it 1-0. The cheering of the 1653 spectators hadn’t quite died down when the people of Linz were awarded a majority opportunity. Emilio Romig, who was acting as assistant captain, was an asset in this and was able to place a shot between the pole and goalie Ovecka’s catch hand in the 8th minute to make it 2-0.
Immediately afterwards, Nove Zamky had a first opportunity because the Linz defensive department negligently wasted the disc in the build-up play. Rasmus Tirronen distinguished himself for the first time. Even after that, the guests always had the chance to make mistakes in the game structure.
In the 26th minute, Nove Zamky went on the power play for the first time because Matt MacKenzie had to go into the cooler after a foul. But instead of 2:1 it was 3:0. Brodi Stuart drove into the attacking third at high speed, passed to Christoph Tialler, who was able to defeat Ovecka with a well-placed shot. Shawn St-Amant added another two minutes later, the disc being deflected into the net by an opponent.
The Slovakian first division team reduced the deficit to 1:4 in the second half with a long-range shot by Andrej Hatala (32nd). In the final third, Marc-Olivier Roy made it 2:4. After that, Linzer were closer to the fifth goal than Nove Zamky to the goal.
Linz’s next pre-season game is on Saturday in Kitzbühel against DEL club Iserlohn. The next home test match will take place on Friday, August 25th against the DEL2 club Bad Nauheim.
