The rainy came hard to Uruguay in the last few hours, and they were of great relief in the metropolitan area, according to the latest rainfall bulletin published by the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) which allows us to strengthen the idea that the water crisis it is more and more an anecdote.

Montevideo and nearby towns recorded the heaviest rains in recent hours, according to the Inumet record cut off at 11 today —and since 7 yesterday—, in which it was observed that in the capital of the country, one of the areas most affected by the water emergency, fell between 80 and 108 millimeters of water.

In that sense, in the Santa Lucia river basin, which is the main source of fresh water for the supply of the metropolitan area, the average rainfall of 19.2 millimeters in the measured segment of 24 hours; while those accumulated in Severine Pass they go from 25.5 to 43 millimeters and from 24.2 to 40 millimeters in Running waters.

“Precipitations will continue to affect the southern basins for the next 24 hours, beginning to decrease in intensity and quantity starting in the afternoon/night of today, when the frontal system moves north of Uruguay”, reported the meteorological agency in its bulletin.

“Rains on Friday will be light in the south, increasing the wind until the early hours of Sunday,” they added.

A loan from Fonplata to avoid new water crises

fonplata will grant a loan for 60 million dollars to Uruguay to improve the conditions of provision of the drinking water service throughout the country and, thus, mitigate the still lasting effects of the water crisis; as well as prevent future emergency situations before extreme weather events.

This was officially communicated by the agency, while the country still feels the remnants of the worst moment of the water crisisin which the metropolitan area was just a few days away from running out of drinkable water.

The project foresees investments in infrastructure, equipment, supplies and supplies; and the financing will be given in two stages: the first, for 40 million dollars, and the second for another 20 million more, to complete the total amount.
