In addition to the community, the dedicated local politician was also active in the parish council, in the rural professional representation and on the Supervisory Board of the Raiffeisenbank. He participated in the Seniors’ Association and held the office of senior farmer’s chairman. In short, his commitment to the community was never-ending.
In 1967, when he was young, Leitgeweger founded the Niederwaldkirchen machine ring – a pioneering achievement for the time. Franz Leitgeweger has also made a name for himself as a competent author of several historical documentations: for example with the 500-page documentation “From Hope to Perfection” about the deceased in the parish. The commemorative publication on the market survey also bears his signature. Many other literary projects were still being planned, but the politician was unable to complete them throughout his life.
gifted poet
In addition to all his activities in the service of the community, the “Bauer z’Uttendorf” never forgot his obligations as a passionate farmer, who was also known as a schnapps distiller: The “Braune Bär”, the recipe of which is still a great secret today, was one well-known brand in the region.
He was also born with a special talent, namely poetry. The poems he wrote himself, which were humorous but also serious and profound, could probably have filled a whole book, his companions recall.
Until his last days, Franz Leitgeweger felt a great need to always actively participate in social life. The market town of Niederwaldkirchen is now mourning the popular former mayor, but especially his wife Maria, who can look back on 56 years of happy marriage together, as well as his five children, 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
