A French-Canadian woman was sentenced Thursday to nearly 22 years in prison in USA for sending in 2020 a letter containing deadly ricin to the then president donald trump (2017-2022).
Pascale Ferrier, 56, pleaded guilty in January to “biological weapons violations” for both possession and use. The sentence imposed corresponds to 262 months in prison provided for in an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office. The local court will also order her deportation at the end of her sentence, the Justice Department said in a statement.
Ferrier admitted that he made ricin, an extremely toxic plant protein that can cause death by poisoning when it enters the body, at his home in Quebec in September 2020.
That same month he sent a letter containing the product from Canada to the White House, then occupied by Trump, in addition to other letters with the poison destined for eight judicial officials in the state of Texas.
His letter to Trump contained “threatening language” and asked him to withdraw from the elections that were then approaching, according to the Justice Department.
At the time of sending the letter, Ferrier had also posted on Twitter that someone should “shoot Trump in the face,” the AFP agency reported.
After sending the letters, Ferrier attempted to drive into the United States through an official crossing in Buffalo, New York, on September 20, 2020. She was arrested there in possession of a loaded weapon and numerous ammunition, the judicial portfolio indicated.
