Two witnesses observed the incident and alerted the emergency services. Divers were at the scene of the accident within a few minutes, but could not find the 23-year-old Pole. In the evening, divers searched for the man at a depth of 60 to 80 meters, the police reported in a broadcast.

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. One of the witnesses was traveling with the board himself and within a very short time was at the last sighting point of the 23-year-old, but could not find it. Coincidentally, an exercise by the Salzburg State Police Headquarters was taking place at the lake at the same time, in which a water rescue diver was also involved. According to the police, he was at the scene of the accident within ten minutes, but could no longer find the water sportsman.

Based on witness statements and with the help of a GPS tracker from the stand-up paddler, the narrower search area was narrowed down and marker buoys were set. In the evening, divers searched at a depth of about 60 to 80 meters. If this search does not bring any results, it will be continued into the night with deep sonar boats from the water rescue service, the police informed.
