Josef Arbeitshuber says that he is faster on his bike than on any other means of transport available to him: “I don’t need a parking space or a public transport ticket. Only in winter and when it is slippery do I walk or do my home office.” Above all, it is the way home from Ennsdorf to Christkindl, a little uphill, which creates a bit of a balance to his mostly sedentary work. Two problem areas in Steyr are of particular concern to him: in Schweizergasse there is an unfortunately narrow footpath and cycle path without it signage. The narrow, steep driveway means there is a risk of falling, especially when it is wet. And at the end of Redtenbachergasse, cyclists are allowed to ride against the one-way street, but cars rarely wait in this narrow area until the cyclist has passed. Cars or cyclists have to move onto the sidewalk, which is too narrow.
