The charge is grossly negligent manslaughter, since the child, who could not yet swim, jumped into deep water without water wings, while the father is said to have been in the thermal baths restaurant and in the outdoor area. The trial at the Eisenstadt Regional Court starts at 10:30 a.m. and is scheduled to last two hours.

The father is accused of grossly negligently ignoring the attention and care required as a supervisor. This resulted in the child drowning. The girl had jumped into a 1.9 meter deep pool and drowned because she could not swim yet. According to the indictment, the man is said to have stayed in the facility’s restaurant or outside for more than 20 minutes.

A swimmer had become aware of the girl floating in the water. Despite first aid and resuscitation measures, it later died in the Donaustadt Clinic in Vienna. On the other hand, there was no indication of a breach of due diligence on the part of the managing director of the Sonnentherme and the lifeguard. These investigations have been discontinued.
