Aug 19 (Reuters) – The state of São Paulo will become a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone without vaccination after an immunization round in November, the government said on Saturday after being notified by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

“São Paulo will be able to seek increasingly profitable markets thanks to the quality of the meat coming from a free zone without vaccines,” São Paulo Secretary of Agriculture and Supply Antonio Junqueira said in a statement.

“After a lot of work by the technical staff of the São Paulo state government and rural producers, we have reached the status of foot-and-mouth disease-free without vaccination,” he added.

The new status of São Paulo is the highest against foot-and-mouth disease.
