Two Israelis and one Palestinian died today in separate events that occurred in the occupied West Bank, the scene in recent months of attacks by Palestinian militias or their sympathizers against Israeli settlers from nearby settlements, as well as violent incursions by the latter to attack the local population.
“There was a shooting against several Israeli civilians in the (Palestinian) town of Huwara,” said a statement from the Israeli army, adding that the attack left two dead.
The civilians were attacked in their car when they were parked and, according to sources from the Emergency service, they were two men of about 30 and 60 years.
In a separate development, a Palestinian shot by Israeli forces earlier this week during a raid also died today, the official Wafa news agency and a health worker reported.
Mohamed Abu Asaab was “severely injured in the head” last Wednesday in the Balata refugee camp, on the outskirts of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, and lost his life today, according to local reports.
Abu Asaab was reportedly hit during clashes that broke out when Israeli “undercover forces” surrounded a house in the refugee camp.
The Palestinian enclave of the West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967, has been the scene of constant clashes between Israelis and Palestinians throughout this year.
Since January, at least 218 Palestinians have died as a result of the conflict, as well as 30 Israelis, a Ukrainian and an Italian, according to a tally by the AFP news agency based on official figures.
