The 25-year-old woman steered the car on Saturday on the Mühlviertler Schnellstraße in the direction of Prague. Her ex-boyfriend, who was the same age, was in the front passenger seat, and their six-month-old baby was in a seat in the back.
During the trip, the man is said to have threatened his ex several times with killing him. To underline his threat, he is said to have grabbed her steering wheel and repeatedly applied the handbrake slightly. He also slapped her twice on the temple with the palm of his hand.
The driver managed to get off the expressway in Freistadt to stop at the next police station. In the parking lot, the 25-year-old prevented her from getting out by holding her with his seat belt. The driver asked a passer-by for help, who alerted the police.
The victim had a headache from the beating on the temple. A restraining order was issued against the man. The accused confessed and admitted to hitting his ex-girlfriend, although he denied the threats.
