The ÖVP makes swimming a topic again in the first municipal council meeting after the summer break on September 21st by means of a request. The reason for this is the closure of the swimming pool at the Pedagogical University of the Diocese of Linz.

This means that the next opportunity for children to learn to swim is now being thrown away, criticizes VP parliamentary group leader Michaela Sommer. It is unacceptable that Linz cannot offer the infrastructure so that all children can learn to swim and practice this sport during gymnastics lessons.

issue in the council

She demands quick solutions – apart from the planned new indoor pool in Ebelsberg. This is interesting for those children who will need a swimming course in the future, but not for those who will do so immediately. Sommer is now campaigning for “finding out” which pools, including sauna pools, are available and where there is a chance to adapt them with little effort so that the children can go swimming there throughout the school year.

The VP parliamentary group leader expects answers to questions such as “Can you, for example, adapt children’s swimming pools, i.e. convert them so that you can swim there?” or “Can outdoor pools be structurally modified without large-scale construction work so that they can also be used in winter?” Sommer does not want the latter to be understood as a new push for the controversial flexible roofing of the sports pool in the Parkbad. She brings the construction of carports into play here as an example.
