Pyhrnautobahn closed after a serious accident near Roßleithen

An elderly car driver had lost control of his car around 1 p.m. near Roßleithen: He came off the road to the right, crashed into the guard rail and the concrete crash barrier. The impact was so severe that the passenger, the driver’s 76-year-old wife, sustained serious injuries.

Subsequent drivers provided first aid. The severely injured Hungarian was rescued from the badly damaged car by volunteer firefighters in Windischgarsten. After treatment by the emergency doctor, the rescue brought her to the Pyhrn Eisenwurzen Klinikum Kirchdorf. From there she was transferred by helicopter to the clinic in Steyr.

The 79-year-old driver initially stated that he was unharmed, but complained of pain during the interrogation at the police station. He was treated at the Pyhrn Eisenwurzen Clinic in Kirchdorf. The car was totaled. The A9 was blocked from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. between the Roßleithen and St. Pankraz junctions in the direction of Wels, the police said in the evening.
