The Municipality of Montevideo (IM) announced the launch of a new application that will allow the crediting of balance loads for the STM card, either for common users or for retirees; so far one is being made pilot test with card users.
This Monday morning, at a press conference, the departmental head of Montevideo, Caroline Cosse, announced the launch of a new online recharge system for the STM card. The new method will be through an application that can be installed on cell phones, as well as other devices.
According to the details provided by the president, it began with a small group of usersselected as beta testers, who will start using the new service. Based on the experience with this group, the necessary adjustments will be made to improve the new application so that all card users, whether ordinary or retired, can access the services.
How does the recharge work?
To start using the service, first of all, you must adhere to this modality with a minimal recharge of $210, which is equivalent to five one-hour electronic trips. As for the ABC ticket users (who have a Uruguay Social Card – Mides) will require a minimum recharge of less than $84.
Once the recharge is complete, the balance will be activated immediately by passing the card through a POS at any Comprehensive Service Center, although the balance will also be activated in the validating machines on the buses, although for that 48 must pass after the accession.
The banks and credit and debit cards that are adhered, in a first stage, are Bandes, BBVA, BROU, Heritage, HSBC, Itaú, Santander and Scotiabank. On the other hand, the application will allow you to check the available balance – although it could differ with respect to the last trips since it is not in real time –, as well as the history of movements made by the adhered card.
What happens if I run out of balance?
When the balance reaches the limit below two electronic one-hour tripsthat is, $84, a warning message will be sent to the user that their balance is low so that they have time to recharge.
On the other hand, from the official page of the mayor’s office they established that “the web recharge service supports overdrafts for 24 hours, so that if the user runs out of balance this will not prevent them from traveling”. However, “if you do not make a web recharge in the following 24 hours, your card will be blocked until you recharge it”.
