Thousands of visitors attended the premiere of the Wels “Voi Guad Gourmet Festival” in 2019, where hosts and direct marketers from the region transformed the city center into a mile of pleasure. After two corona-related cancellations in 2020 and 2021, the event could not take place last year due to bad weather. Now there is an adapted concept for the “Voi Guad Pleasure Days”, which will take place in the city center on September 1st and 2nd.
In order to be prepared for bad weather, more pagodas will be erected this year. Five of the ten participating innkeepers don’t cook on the street, but in their restaurants. The approximately 20 participating direct marketers are represented with their stands on the town square and Pollheimerpark. “We want to continue the success story with a combination of regional direct marketers and local innkeepers,” says Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP). It would have taken a lot of persuasion to get everyone on board, especially since the shortage of staff is also causing problems for the restaurateurs, but the event will certainly attract thousands more people to the city center and help to revitalize it. At the time of the first edition, there were 17 restaurateurs and 40 direct marketers.
Due to inflation, the pleasure plate for 5 euros with the respective specialties of the hosts will not be available as was the case at the premiere in 2019. Dishes with a price range of 5 to 16 euros are offered, from sweet pancakes to veal cream goulash. “International cuisine with products from the region will also be offered again,” says Helmut Platzer, chairman of the Wels Region Tourism Association. The two Indian Wels restaurants Indiya and Zaffran as well as the Wakuwaku are represented. Restaurateurs from the municipality of Kremsmünster, which is part of the Wels Tourist Association, are no longer there.
Economic City Councilor Martin Oberndorfer (VP) emphasizes that direct marketers in Wels can present themselves to a wide audience, and the weekly market on Saturday will also be integrated and used more intensively.
City marketing boss Peter Jungreithmair adds: “The number of events in Wels should remain high.” From September 4th, the days of enjoyment will be followed by the Shopping Week with the Shopping Night on Friday, September 8th. The following week, the Welser Volksfest once again lures visitors to the trade fair city.
