At around 9:40 p.m., a 27-year-old Serb steered his car in the direction of Wels. In the area of the Maisdorf Ost car park, he stopped his car on the breakdown lane to inquire by phone about the whereabouts of an acquaintance who was also traveling on the A9. After the phone call, he drove on and steered his car into the right lane.
A subsequent driver (22) from Kirchdorf an der Krems could no longer brake and drove into the 27-year-old’s vehicle.
The cars came to a standstill in the right lane and on the hard shoulder. Passers-by at the nearby rest area reacted with lightning speed and rushed to help the injured.
The pregnant wife (26) of the 27-year-old and the two-year-old son were seriously injured in the collision. The two drivers sustained injuries of unspecified degree.
Due to the blocking of the A9 in the construction site area between Inzersdorf and Klaus, it was difficult for the emergency services to get there. The rescue alley had to be created under the instructions of the firefighters in order to enable the following emergency services to advance quickly.
The A9 was closed from 9:40 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. in the direction of Wels between the Inzersdorf and Ried im Traunkreis junctions.
