Last year, more than 8,000 people were newly diagnosed with obesity and more than 11,000 with type II diabetes. Over 53,000 people suffered a heart attack.

In order to be fit in everyday life, the human body needs strength, endurance and coordination, and movement is essential for this. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends at least 150 minutes of exercise per week for adults and one hour per day for children. Endurance sports in particular are recommended.

“An active lifestyle is essential for a long, healthy life. People who get enough exercise have a 20 to 30 percent lower risk of developing a serious illness,” explains Dr. Andreas Krauter, the chief physician of the Austrian health insurance fund.

Sufficient physical activity makes people more efficient and the body many times more resistant to serious illnesses such as strokes, diabetes and various types of cancer, but also depression.
