The Swedish author Karin Smirnoff has taken on the difficult and tempting task of continuing to tell the dark stories from the supposedly peaceful Sweden. This is the first time a woman has taken control of the Millennium saga: “Verderben” is the title of the seventh, 464-page part of the series, which is being published today by Heyne Verlag. In Sweden, the work was already on the market at the end of 2022 under the title “Havsörnens skrik” (The Scream of the Sea Eagle). It has since sold over 100,000 copies in the country.

A successful series has found a sequel that was actually considered to be over: “Vernichtung” by David Lagercrantz was supposed to be the finale in 2019, but then the Swedish publisher Polaris acquired the rights to three new Millennium books – at the end of 2021 Smirnoff became conjured out of a hat as the next author.
