The woman had slipped with her crampons on the heavily soaked Rotgratferner. She then fell about 100 meters over the glacier, the police said. The Austrian could not stop the fall with her guide pick and only came to a standstill at the end of the glacier. Two companions then alerted the rescue services.
The 34-year-old was rescued by the crew of an emergency helicopter with a wind and flown to the regional hospital in Hall in Tirol. She has a fractured ankle and multiple abrasions all over her body, it said.
