Respect and insertion in the world, the coordinates of the government, according to Arbeleche

The minister of Economy and Finance (MEF), Azucena Arbelechehighlighted the economic achievements of the administration during the official speech for the 198th Declaration of Independence of Uruguay, in High Stone, Florida: “This government is complying,” he said.

The owner of the MEF was in charge of giving the official speech on behalf of the Executive power during the act for Independence Day that was held in the department of Florida. During it, the “freedom of the people” was the central axis that organized his oratory, in which he also took the opportunity to highlight the achievements that the administration headed by the president Luis Lacalle Pou is reaching.

“This government is fulfilling its commitment to maintain the real salary, which is already at levels similar to those of the pre-pandemic and, we estimate, will continue to rise in the coming years,” he said, in this sense, pointing out one of the Executive’s most important promises for this year.

He also referred to the “greatest investment, creation of employment and opportunities” that has been achieved during the multicolor administration, in addition to the desire for “greater freedom and prosperity”. “Freer people, a cohesive and supportive society. A respected country and inserted in the world, are the clear coordinates that have guided the government, even in adversity,” said Arbeleche, in this regard.

The minister also affirmed that an “unprecedented investment in infrastructure has been made in recent years”, and mentioned as an example the bridge of La Charqueada (Thirty and three), recently opened. Other notable facts were the resources allocated to the mental health program and addiction treatment; the 116,000 more employed people compared to 2019; and the “significant drop in the inflation”, located at “the lowest level since November 2005”.

In this sense, he pointed to the “concrete results” and the “clear progress towards greater freedom for Uruguayans”; which, according to Arbeleche, must be completed with the opening to the world of Uruguay and the “desire for freedom to access international markets”.

A demonstration received Lacalle Pou

President Luis Lacalle Pou went to the department of Florida together with other government authorities to commemorate the Independence Day of Uruguay, but was received by a demonstration led by the lawyer and activist Gustavo Salle, as it happened in 2022. The project of the Finnish company UPM and the vaccination program against Covid-19 were the claims that were repeated, to which situational issues were added.

Salle’s presence was once again an element in the official act for the 198th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and some of the flags and banners raised by the demonstrators were not news to those present. Many others, however, evidenced what seems to be a climate of the time: the call against the “political caste”, in line with the speech of the Argentine presidential candidate, Javier Miley, criticism of the traditional political system.

“I am talking about the ministers, the deputies and the senators, no one can approach the people. Let’s see which deputy, which senator, which hierarch, comes here to refute the arguments respectfully expressed in accordance with article 29 of the Constitution of the Republic. not even the cardinal (Daniel) Sturla he was encouraged to come here to have a conversation. This is the strength we have, the strength of the people are the arguments that you cannot refute,” Salle exclaimed through a megaphone, at Piedra Alta.
