With almost 50 successful measurements, seven violations of the legal limit values were found, said Carolin Abromeit from the BSH. The results were made available to the control authorities in all European ports together with the data from the ship in real time.

If a violation is proven, the shipping companies must expect fines of up to 50,000 euros. The drone will be in use on a German Federal Police ship until the end of August. In the summer of 2022, a drone carried out exhaust gas checks in the Baltic Sea. The aircraft had started for its missions from Fehmarn. In the series of measurements, almost 98 percent of the ships had complied with the values. The drone system is provided by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).
