Tropical Storm Idalia is heading for Mexico and the US state of Florida

Tropical storm Idalia could cause “an increasing risk of life-threatening storm surges and hurricane-force winds” along the west coast of Florida and its northwestern tip starting Tuesday, the NHC said. Tropical storm “Idalia” was in the Caribbean on Sunday evening with wind speeds of around 65 kilometers per hour and covered southeastern Mexico with wind and rain. According to the meteorologists, it is unlikely that it will make landfall there.

The people in the state of Quintana Roo with the coastal city of Cancún, which is popular with tourists, felt its effects in the form of rain and wind. The storm is expected to sweep across the Gulf of Mexico before reaching northwest Florida.

While heavy rains are expected in parts of Mexico’s eastern Yucatán region and western Cuba, the NHC has issued storm surge and hurricane warnings for parts of Florida’s coast. Isolated flooding is to be expected, the NHC said. The model predictions for the intensity of the storm are therefore “very different”. They range “from minimal to severe hurricane status,” the NHC added.
