The 57-year-old homeowner had tried to contain the fire with a fire extinguisher. However, because of the intense heat and massive smoke, he failed. When the alarmed fire brigade arrived at the family home at around 9:35 a.m., the party room in the basement was already fully engulfed in fire. With combined forces – several respiratory protection teams were deployed – the firefighters were able to bring the fire under control. An expert was called in by the State Criminal Police Office to determine the cause of the fire. The house is currently uninhabitable, the police said in the afternoon. Significant property damage was caused in an as yet unknown amount. Luckily no one was injured.
