Due to the persistent rainfall, the Danube level is rising continuously. In Linz, people are therefore preparing for flooding. On Monday evening, the city of Linz announced via broadcast: “The fairgrounds will be closed to traffic due to the rising water levels.” The professional fire brigade appeals to park vehicles as a precaution. In an emergency, cars and other vehicles would have to be removed by the fire department.
The Hydrographic Service of the State of Upper Austria expects a water level of 6.40 meters in Linz for Tuesday, 8 p.m. From 6.80 meters, the Danube would overflow its banks in the Alturfahr-West area and at the fairgrounds. The city has already prepared: On Monday the twelve openings in the wall of the mobile flood protection wall near the stairways were closed, and supports and dam beams were erected in the direction of the river street/new town hall. “Flussgasse will remain passable for the time being,” said City Councilor Eva Schobesberger. The measures in the Alturfahr-West area ensure flood protection up to a water level of 7.60 meters, which would correspond to a ten-year flood.
