It is a “unique symbiosis” for both the Ried Exhibition Center and the Simmental Breeding Association Inn- and Hausruckviertel (FIH), says Josef Miesenberger. The anticipation of the managing director of the FIH for the Rieder trade fair from September 7th to 10th is correspondingly great. Not least because the FIH, which is based on the exhibition grounds, enjoys “home advantage”.
207 animals from eleven different cattle breeds from the breeding associations FIH, RZO, RZV and VFS were registered for the Upper Austrian breeding cattle exhibition. The animals are presented by 118 different family businesses. The judging will take place for all breeds on Friday, September 8th. The young breeders will show their skills on Saturday, September 9th. Tobias Amann from Vorarlberg could be won as a judge.
International guests
According to information from the FIH, guests from Germany, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, the Czech Republic and Turkey have confirmed their attendance. “With this exhibition, we want to give all breeders orientation and show where cattle breeding is headed,” says Miesenberger.
Upper Austria is in charge of breeding polled animals. “This is impressively confirmed by the presentation of cow families of the Fleckvieh breed, an ever-increasing number of genetically polled cows and the first-time presentation of a progeny group of the Fleckvieh bull ‘Valta P*S’ by the Upper Austrian Insemination Station GmbH,” says the FIH boss.
The FIH has invested in the location in Ried this year. The roof of the auction stable was renewed, PV systems with more than 200 kWp were installed.
The most important thing for the members was the installation of modern box systems in the auction stable. Chairman Johann Hosner is convinced that these investments make sense for making the marketing location in Ried more attractive. At the agricultural fair, visitors can get an idea of the box system for the first time. From September 26, the breeding cattle at the monthly auctions in Ried will no longer be led into the auction hall by the members by hand, but presented to the buyers “free running”.
